Solar panels with battery storage allow you to reduce your electricity bills by up to 70% as you’ll be supplying your own green energy, which also lowers your home’s CO2 emissions.

By using solar panels you have an effective means of generating your own electricity for your home during daylight hours, which is a great way to save money.

However during dark hours you’ll still need to resort to purchsasing electricty from an energy provider to power your home.

By coupling your solar panels with battery storage you can become even more energy independent, as any unused energy from the sunlight will be convereted into AC power and stored for later usage.

This combination allows some homes to be fully self sufficient and not have to pay anything to the national grid.

Rather than burning fuels like traditional heating systems, Heat Pumps transfer thermal energy from the air outside into your home, to provide hot water and heating via your radiators.

They are powered by electricity and transfer heat using refrigerant to provide comfort all year round, efficient in temperatures as low as -20°C.

Heat pumps do not actually generate heat – instead they move heat from one place to another. As heat pumps do not burn fossil fuels like furnaces do, they are a greener choice for those looking to be more environmentally friendly.

ASHPs require very little maintenance, with the average heat pump having a life span of over 25 years. You can expect all-year-round operation from this technology due to the internal defrost cycle inside the system.

The Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan aims to help with the upfront costs, giving you a grant up to £7,500 (or up to £9,000 if the household qualifies for the rural uplift) and borrow up to £7,500 as an optional loan.

Funding and grants available from Home Energy Scotland for energy storage systems (heat or electric batteries): £6,000 (£1,250 grant available if taken as a package of measures)
